Board of Directors Membership Opportunity

We are currently seeking additional candidates for the Board of Directors who believe in the mission and work of this organization as it makes its transition from a privately operated Good Samaritan facility to a professionally run not-for-profit organization with sustainable community support.

The Dennis House Board of Directors offers an entrepreneurial leadership opportunity in support of an essential community resource with a mission of profound humanitarian merit. Dennis House saves lives and gives women, who might otherwise have no hope, a second chance. No one who is serious about seeking recovery is turned away.

Board members will have the satisfaction of building a self sustaining not-for-profit organization among a community of friends and will see the positive results of their involvement in the lives of clients who become productive and contributing members of the community.

Board meetings are held monthly. When necessary, meetings may occur via telephone. There are no minimum give or get requirements, but each board member is expected to make Dennis House a philanthropic priority and to support it in an appropriately meaningful way.

The Board of Directors is responsible for providing technical assistance where appropriate to the Executive Director, who is the sole salaried employee of the agency. Directors are also expected to act as ambassadors within the community for the organization and to recruit supporters within their circles of influence.

Skills that are particularly desirable include the law, including healthcare law, finance and accounting, marketing and communications and substance abuse treatment and recovery. Directors may be asked to support the work of contract consultants in fundraising and finance and accounting.
